Bericon’s Lily Baker spent her weekend watching “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox” and, like many viewers, it stunned her. The forensic failures that emerged during and after the Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito investigation have since become a widely discussed example of how poor evidence handling, bias, and procedural weaknesses can impact the course of justice.

This case centred on the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy, quickly became a global media storm. Yet beneath the headlines lies a cautionary tale about how investigative errors, confirmation bias, and flawed forensic practices can derail justice.

1. Contaminated and Mishandled DNA Evidence

One of the most widely criticised aspects of the case was the handling of DNA evidence. Key items such as a kitchen knife and a bra clasp were collected and processed under questionable conditions:
